Years ago when we cleaned offices a friend from church asked me to bid on cleaning their offices. He told me what they were currently paying. a week later we met with his office manager and she proceeded to beat me up on prices and service.
she only wanted unbelievable quality, care, attention to detail and service--and she wanted to pay less than she was paying now and she was paying below rock bottom prices.
she didn't know I knew what she was paying. It was really more of an exercise in management to have me in since I already knew I wasn't getting the job at those prices.
When she told me she wanted better cleaning and wanted to pay less I actually laughed out loud. Ma'am you can have better cleaning and you can have lower prices but who lied to you and told you those two things go together?
we paid our people top wages, we had full insurance. we bought the best equipment. we were the real deal and were in great demand. "Help me to understand why I should clean for you and lose money?" She blustered about long term relationships and how they knew a lot of people in the industry.
what's amazing is that everyone who is cheaper than dirt knows everyone on the planet and if we will only clean for them for next to nothing they will hook us up and we'll all be driving Mercedes.
Bottom line? I learned something from that experience. I learned I didn't want to clean offices anymore so we sold off that division and focused on home care, churches and everyone's basements.
you get what you pay for. if you want the lowest prices go for it. you'll get a bait and switch cleaner who upcharges you to breath and every other possible thing.
