pet odor removal part two

-->
Pet odor removal part two.  Ok. Enough chit chat. Your dog or cat or kid had a bad night and peed on the floor.  Once when our middle son was little he was half asleep he took a wrong turn and I woke up to find him standing in the corner of our bedroom peeing in the carpet. He thought it was the bathroom. Of course when he was done it smelled like the bathroom but I digress.

Someone wizzed on your carpet. Find them and kill them later. Right now we want to get that pee out before it starts to stink or attracts vulture or buffalo or whatever.

Get some light colored towel. Red towels will leave red so make them light colored or white.  Put the towel over the we spot and step on it. Continue to move the towel around till you’ve sucked up as much pee as possible and the towel stops showing wet.

Then my little do it yourself carpet cleaner get some white vinegar and mix it with  water. Fifty fifty.  Half water half vinegar.  Pour it on the spot and all around the spot. Soak it good because you have to follow the same path the urine did if you want to get it all out. Okay, now let it sit for half an hour. The vinegar will mix with the urine and break it down.

So after buffing your nails or having a cup of coffee come back to the scene of the crime with more fresh light colored towels.

Step on the  wet spot with a fresh towel and move it around till you’ve sucked up as much pee-vinegar-water solution as possible.

Now get another towel and fold it over two ply and put it on the slightly damp spot. Put some weights or heavy books on the towel to press it into the carpet. Let it set for 2-3 days. The vinegar will continue to destroy the urine and the solution will wick into the towel leaving your carpet urine free, stain free and just a little damp. Put a fan on the damp and go have another cup of coffee. Congratulations. You are now a successful carpet cleaner and I can use you on the truck. We’ll be by Monday at 8:00 am. Pack a lunch and bring something to drink.  Till next time stay frosty. Pet odor removal part one

Hello and welcome back to Beyond Carpet Cleaning blog on all things related to carpet care.  Today we’ll talk about how to get urine out of carpets.

Sometimes my clients insist their pet is not peeing on the carpet but there is an overpowering smell of pee in the affected areas. One lady told me her pet was not peeing down there and we brought in a black lite and it looked like a Miami CSI crime scene.   Ma’am, this is urine I told her. My pet is not peeing down here. I will not believe it. Fine. Then you need to keep an eye on your husband.

Another woman ran a pet rescue and had one dog she simply could not place. I think there might be a little something in this room she said pointing to a spare bedroom the dog had visited.  I brought in the black light and it look like a Steven King movie gone horribly wrong. There was pee on the bed post, on every single piece of furniture and the walls. There was even pee on the bed itself. Oh that horrible dog was her response when she saw the done deeds.

Finally one of our clients had a unique way of handling dog urine. I just let the dog pee anywhere in the house he wants and when he dies I’ll just replace the carpet. He had us clean the once white now golden carpet a time or two.   The odor was beyond thunderdome.  The dog finally died and guess what. He didn’t have to replace the carpet. He had to replace the carpet, the padding, rip out the sub floor, the walls, I think the studs were ok—maybe.

So pet urine can be a problem. I come home from a hard day of cleaning carpets only to find my own two dogs have left me presents and it’s not even my birthday. Logi you really shouldn’t. No you really really shouldn’t.

You may be great at what you do but that does not mean you are great at training an animal.   I’m not. My youngest son accuses me and says dad our first dog was fine because you trained him but these dogs are not because you gave up on them.   Don’t you have to go off to college or a job or something I tell him back.  Okay it looks like we’re not going to get to how to get urine out of carpets today. Probably next time for sure. Till then stay frosty and if you need pet urine removal Hinsdale, carpet odor removal Burr Ridge, stain and odor removal Clarendon Hills or dog pee removal Oak Brook call us today 630 932 8004

poo on you?

Hi and welcome back to blogs r us your one stop shop for all things having to do with carpet, pet odors and other related matters.

Today we’d like to go deeper into the dark world of pet urine problems and what you can do about them.

Ok. So Licky the cat or Towzer the dog had a bad night and you found out the hard way walking to the bathroom in the dark and you stepped in something soft and yielding.   Immediately your brain starts riffling through the ten million things your toes could be squished deeply into but at the speed of thought your mind selects and reject each one till there is only one.  You know exactly what it is and you also know who done it. Your husband is over on his side of the bed snoring so he gets a pass—this time.   The kids don’t poop on the carpet so that leaves your loving mutt or your sweet tender hearted cat Brutus.   Worse you took a few steps after putting your foot in it so now even in the dark as the odor rises to your schnozzola  you know it’s spread.

What’s a girl to do?  Wake the lug and start crying? Good call. Brilliant.  Wish I’d have thought of it.  You foist it off on hubby and go back to sleep knowing you’ve fulfilled his deepest longings—at least one of his deepest longings—to be needed.

If Hank’s not around and it’s on you first wash your foot, then put the dog outside. With any luck that mountain lion is still around, then start on the clean up. Rubber gloves are nice but if you don’t have any it’s just poo and you’ve cleaned your kids up before so pick it up and put it in the toilet with the paper towels you used to pick it up.

Then a nice fresh terry cloth towel . soaking wet and squeezed damp.

From the outside of the stain working inwards push the poo inward. Do not grab repeat do not grab the Dawn Liquid and nuke the spot.  We’ll talk about sanitizing later tater.  Working from the outside in stops you from smearing the soft serve all over creation and makes clean up easier.  Use the clean parts of the towel till you’ve mopped up all the gross stuff.
We’ll get to sanitizing next time out.

exploring the yellow river

Exploring the other yellow river and other odor causing concerns.  The Yellow River or Huáng Hé is the third-longest river in Asia, following the Yangtze River and Yenisei River, and the sixth-longest in the world at the estimated length of 5,464 km. Wikipedia

n

Wowzers! That’s some river but sometimes the river your cat or dog creates on your carpet seems longer.   Urinary tract infection, freaking out because of the lightning storm or just acting out because you took the dog for a ride instead of Licky the cat.  Whatever the reason the results are the same.  Your home smells like an overripe litter box.

What’s a girl to do?

First, don’t freak out.   Help is a phone call away.  Play detective and  suss out why did Towzer pee on the rug?  Did someone forget to let him out in a timely fashion?  Was he nervous about his upcoming interview as Brad Pitt’s dog?  Did the lightning or a mountain lion at the window scare him?  It only takes a little bit of work and you’ll probably come across the answer.

Now for a solution.  There are all kinds of solutions. Put the animal in a crate when there is lightning storms.  Get a skunk to chase off the mountain lion. Tell Brad fluffy is overbooked but you’ve got some free time.

You can put up gates or close doors and keep the animal from accessing the part they peed on. Their nose or habit will tell them they need to go pee on that part again and if you close off access they’ll pee somewhere else like outside or the litter box if it’s pristine.

No animal should be allowed to destroy your home. That bears repeating. No animal should be allowed to destroy your home.
If you can’t bear to put your pet in a crate because you’ve convinced yourself it’s cruel—it’s not, then put them in the laundry room and put the litter box in there.  If they miss then it’s easy to clean a tile or wood floor. Carpet not so much.

You can go on Amazon and buy a deterrent collar with a sensor.    Put the sensor or several sensors at each entry point of every room you’d like to not have pee in and then put the collar on fluffy. It won’t harm them and after a bit of training your room is pee-free—until the battery dies so put it in your phone when to replace the battery and don’t cheap out and not replace the battery because carpet cleaning cost a lot more.

More on this topic next time including some home remedies you can actually do.

deeper into the vacuum bag of life.

Deeper into the vacuum bag of life.

Hi and welcome back to my carpet care blog. Today we’ll talk further about how a decent vacuum will help keep dust and allergens out of you and your familie’s lungs in your Hinsdale, Oak Brook, Burr Ridge or Clarendon Hills or surrounding towns homes.

Today: More on vacuums.

There is a brand out there that spends a lot on ads. They make great vacuums but when they break you are out of luck because they are cheaply made in Asia and no one around here will repair them because all the parts are plastic and what did you expect for $600.00?

Maybe you should avoid the big guys next time around. Maybe if your vac is spitting you simply need to take off the bottom face plate and the roller and take the wads of cardboard and hair out of there with a screwdriver.

Sure it’s dusty and dirty so have your husband do it.  Or wear lightweight rubber gloves.

Did you know when your vacuum is half full it loses 50% of it’s sucking power?  Sure it still spins around and makes noise but you’re not cleaning. Just going though the motions.

Middle of the road is probably gonna be good enough but if you need one diamond encrusted I know a guy who knows a guy.

Do not buy the one at Walmart that is the cheapest. You get what you pay for and if you spend a little more and get a vacuum that not only looks like an Oreck or Dyson but actually is an Oreck or Dyson you’ll get a better unit, it will last you longer and best of all you’ll actually use it.

Many of the homes I’m in have great vac up in the bedroom closet but they bought a cheap-o fish vac and use that day to day because it’s convenient.   I get ease of use. Bring your Oreck down and put it in the mud room.  It will work better and if it’s a few pounds lighter than the fish vac your getting more cardio and keeping that high school cheerleader figure in shape—maybe.

how do i find a decent vacuum?

How do I find a decent vacuum?

Hi and welcome back to my carpet care blog. Today we’ll talk further about how a decent vacuum will help keep dust and allergens out of you and your family’s lungs in your Hinsdale, Oak Brook, Burr Ridge or Clarendon Hills or surrounding towns homes and areas.

“Do you need the best?  I can afford the best so why not get the most expensive vacuum cleaner I can find?

Because what’s hyped and pushed as the best often just means this is what we have on the shelf and we’re gonna ram it down the consumer throat because they don’t know any better. As if they could pull that on you!

I’ve seen an absolutely terrible vacuum show up in more expensive homes then I can tell you.  It was cheap, in expensive and right in front of me so I grabbed it just for quick touch ups. I’ve got the really good one in the closet but for quick jobs this thing is lightweight and ideal.

Wow. Those marketing guys really know their stuff. Of course it was in your way at the store. They paid big money to place it there. Along with a multi-million dollar median campaign so you would recognize it when you saw it and if not in the top of your mind it was pretty close to the top so your subconscious send your hand out to pick it up before you even realized what you were doing.

I’m too smart for that kind of thing. No you’re not. None of us are because it works and they know it does. Avoid buying a quick lightweight vac you can hold in one hand. Drag out the dinosaur you already have, empty the dirt cup or replace the bag when it’s half full or stinks of doggy dander and give your floor coverings a good going over.

Light weight and convenient is not always the best for your lovely home’s furnishings or your precious family’s indoor air quality.

Till next time
