are rugs bad for my IAQ?

Are rugs bad for my IAQ?

Hi and welcome back to my carpet care blog. Today we’ll talk further about why how to keep dust and allergens out of you and your families lungs in your Hinsdale, Oak Brook, Burr Ridge or Clarendon Hills or surrounding towns homes.

I love your homes. Each one is nicer than the last and each one has its own unique stamp that says you’ve taken a house and made it a home.

“I choose not to have carpets and rugs that hold dust and offensive things. Great, perfect. However, unless you live in a clean room research facility with air lock, air scrubbers and micro Hepa filters you’re inviting into your home everything that’s floating around in the air outside.  It can’t be helped and indoor air purifiers, while they give you a sense of protection only go so far. Many are not as effective as they would lead you to believe.  What’s a person to do?

Vacuuming is a start.  Some of those fancy super expensive vacs are rhe bomb but if you can’t afford them it’s okay. The less costly ones are good too. Sure they wont’ get down to the micron and sub atomic level but maybe you don’t need that?  Maybe what you need is a decent vac that when cared for will not spew dust and crud back into your homes and family lungs and won’t break the bank doing it.

Some people buy the most expensive vacuum thinking if I pay more I get more. While that is basically true for most things are you really gonna clean those drapes with your vacuum attachment?  Maybe a nice diamond tennis bracelet would look better on your wrist?  It for darn sure would look better than a vacuum on your wrist.

I have both Oreck and Dyson vacuums in my own home. Both have advantages. The Dyson cleans like no other but it’s heavy. The Oreck does not clean as well but its great and lightweight on the stairs so I use it more often.

Stay tuned for the next blog installment to learn this professional opinions and tips on vacuums.

Dust mites and allergens

Dust mites and allegens

Hi and welcome back to my carpet care blog. Today we’ll talk further about why carpets instead of just hardwood or tile for your Hinsdale, Oak Brook, Burr Ridge or Clarendon Hills or surrounding towns homes.

As we said in our last post many people think, “if I don’t have any carpets or rugs my home won’t hold or trap dust mites, dust, allergens or other nose and lung offensive critters.

Nothing could be further from the truth.  You see friends, the biggest filter in your home is not attached to your furnace, and it’s on your floors. Your carpets and rugs. They naturally hold and trap all the airborne stuff you wanted to avoid breathing in the first place.

Your rugs and carpets along with adding to the beauty of your home, absorb cooking odors taking them out of the air and also hold and trap allergens, dust and other pollutants.

If you didn’t have those rugs down guess what happens?  That right.  All the stuff that comes in through your front, back and garage doors  is still going to come in but now instead of filtering down into your rugs to be held in place by your carpets and rugs it simply lays on your floor till you walk by, stir it up with your passage and breath all that harmful stuff into your lungs.   Yucko Bucko!

Shopping for rugs can be filled with stress or a dream depending on how you approach it.  Here’s how to do it right. Get yourself a nice cup of coffee fixed just the way you like it from home or Starbucks.  Get your girlfriend. The one with great taste and tell her we are hunting for big game.   I like Toms Price and stores like that.  FCA in Naperville is also a great place to shop.  Be open-minded. Take notes.  This is not an exercise in frustration. This is adding to the beauty of your lovely home.

You may not find the perfect rug first time out. But you spent time with a friend and got to talk about the kids and life so that’s a good thing too.

Not to worry.  Help for your poor lungs is only a blog away. The very next blog so dial it up.

Why carpet and not just hardwood?

Why carpets and not just hardwood?

Hi and welcome back to my carpet care blog. Today we’ll talk further about why carpets instead of just hardwood or tile for your Hinsdale, Oak Brook, Burr Ridge or Clarendon Hills or surrounding towns homes.

When choosing what to put on their floors many people think, “if I don’t have any carpets or rugs my home won’t hold or trap dust mites, dust, allergens or other nose and lung offensive critters.

Nothing could be further from the truth.  You see friends, the biggest filter in your home is not attached to your furnace, and it’s on your floors. Your carpets and rugs. They naturally hold and trap all the airborne stuff you wanted to avoid breathing in the first place.

You’re walking through your home minding your own whatever and every step you take you are kicking up an incredible amount of things you do not want to be breathing.

You have a life to live so what’s a person to do?

Live your life. But put down some nice rugs and carpet and improve your indoor air quality.   Get a decent vac but when choosing one a middle ground is almost always best.

Ok, ok.  If you can afford a Bentley you should definitely buy a Bentley. Oh and I am available for Sunday afternoon drives to D.Q. My treat just so long as I get to drive the B.  That being said just because you can afford the most expensive vacuum does not mean it is the best.

Something I like to do is go on Amazon and read the reviews. I always start with the worst, the most negative ones first. After a few lines most people can figure out if this person is a wack job or if their concerns are valid and should be considered. If three or four people have the same complain am I gonna get the one that is flawless and perfect?  Maybe. Or maybe I need to look for another brand or model with better reviews.

More about how your floor coverings filter and improve your indoor air quality in our next blog.

2 Carpet Cleaning Care and Concerns

Hi and welcome back to my carpet care blog. Today we’ll talk about why carpets instead of just hardwood or tile for your Hinsdale, Oak Brook, Burr Ridge or Clarendon Hills or surrounding towns homes.

We are in some of the finest homes in Dupage, Cook and Lake Counties.
Homes that are truly magnificent and often we hear homeowners say they are just going with hardwood or tile on their homes to avoid the dust mites; allergens, indoor air pollution carpets and rugs can produce.

While I am all in favor of a minimalist approach and few things are as refreshing as a home tastefully yet sparsely appointed the truth is that a home without floor coverings in all likelihood may have poorer indoor air quality (IAQ) than a home without these things.

Okay Jimmy. I’ll bite. Why would a home free of rugs and carpet possibly have poorer IAQ then a home free of those things?

Glad you asked. The biggest filter in you home is not on the furnace or on that Hepa filter air purifier its your carpets and rugs.  They naturally  hold and trap the dust that blows into your home from the open door or the open garage.  Dust and dirt getting into your home is a fact of life. You can be careful but not that careful. It’s coming in. Period. And when it does it settles on everything. If it settles on your floor coverings they hold it and trap it until you vacuum it out—some of it anyway. Then I get a bunch more out when we clean for you.   But without the rugs and carpets and drapes or curtains that dust just lies on your floor till you walk though, stir it up and breath it into your lungs.   Wowzers!  Someone get me a dust mask please.

You have several options. You can go clean room stealth mode and obsess about the dust in your home.   You can ignore it and never dust or vac or you can take a middle ground and get a decent vacuum and have your carpets and home furnishings cleaned once a year and flush out all the stuff that came in uninvited.   Middle ground is usually the best way. And besides adding an incredibly effective filter to help purify your home’s air you get to enjoy the beauty of your rugs and carpets. They also soften sound so when you got four young kids all clambering at the top of their little lungs for more spaghetti and the dog ate my bread and Gabe punched me things though chaotic are not as loud or as crazy as they might be and that’s a good thing too.

Read our next blog to discover the most commonly made mistakes about this important subject, after all like the Hollies once send, “All I need is the air I breathe,” Lets make sure it’s as pure and clean as it possibly can be.

Till next time, stay frosty my friends and if you need carpet cleaning Hinsdale, pet odor removal Burr Ridge, pet stain and odor Oak Brook and Pet stain and odor removal Clarendon Hills be sure to call the man from Beyond.

Beyond Carpet Cleaning Hinsdale Blog

Chapter 1. Welcome

Hello and welcome to my blog on carpet cleaning concerns. We will address any and all matters related to carpet care, cleaning pet concerns and other related matters. In the first series we will be addressing pet concerns, why they happen, how to prevent them and what to do about them when they do occur.

In future blogs we will discuss home remedies, when you should call a professional, pet safety, the best grooming shops and other related pet matters.  Primarily these blogs will focus on doggie behaviors but we will also touch on cat and kitten concerns, care and accident prevention as well.

You spent a lot of money on your home. Even more making it yours.  There was paint to pick out, carpets and furnishings, probably a thing or two that needed changing and repair or replacement.  It has not been an easy road but it’s a trip worth taking because when you’re finished it will be a place you can be proud of. No, it will not be perfect but it will be a home and better yet, it will be your home.

On while we’re on the topic of your home we need to address the topic of your pets. You love them and they are members of your family but no animal should be allowed to destroy your home. That’s worth repeating. No animal should be allowed to destroy your home.   You may be an amazing homemaker or chairman of the board but that does not mean you are great at pet training. I’m not. My two dogs Logan the bad and Albert the good are always leaving me prizes I’d rather not have.

I clean all day and I come home and I find this? Where is the love?
Where indeed!  In future blogs we’ll talk about loving your pets and when it’s time to let them go.  Probably one of the hardest things you’ll ever do so have some Kleenex on hand for that upcoming one.

If you have a favorite topic not address please feel free to drop me a note and I’ll do what I can to address it.  If you live in Hinsdale, Oak Brook, Clarendon Hills or Burr Ridge or the surrounding towns these blogs are custom made for your pet and carpet care concerns.

Thanks again for visiting and welcome to the Beyond Carpet Cleaning family blog.

Sincerely,

Your host,

Jimmy Settecase
